Plagarism

Hi Everyone,
It is another week this week I chose to write about what if someone else used and took credit for something I did. When I was in culinary school I was in a class where we had to make presentation platters cold and hot for competitions. The class was called Garde Manage it dealt with making items for large platters how do decorate them how to do ice sculptures and also carving food into flowers and birds.. It was really cool any way we were teamed up with one other person as our teammate and we had to do a presentation platter of hot appetizers. We had a week to create recipes and make them and choose the platter and make a layout of the food items on the platter and then decorate it. The hardest thing about this was putting the food on the platter without making any marks on it if you did you needed to start over again. I came up with a recipe for one of the appetizers and a layout of the platter this platter was for a midterm grade. When it came around to presentation day the chef came around and looked at everyone's platter and then started sampling after that he asked questions. He came around to our team and looked at the presentation and tasted my appetizer and he said that the layout of the presentation was fantastic and definitely an A platter. I was ecstatic until my partner told the chef that he came up with the layout and the recipe for the appetizer that he liked most which I created. I was so mad at the time but I kept my mouth shut until after class. After class I went to the professor and told hem that I came up with the layout and came up with the recipe for the appetizer I showed him my recipe and drawing and he said I am glad you came forward and he would take care of it. It turned out that he went to my partner and failed is portion of the midterm but I still received an A for midterm grade. It does not pay to take someone else's work.

  1. Hi Holly
I may have not waited until the end of the class. I think a partner like the one you had would have ended up with the platter, food and all, upside his head lol. The way you did handle it was the right way though, I must admit. The way you must have felt at the time "your partner" tried to take credit for the work and ideas you mainly came up with is the same feelings one must have pertaining to plagiarism in writing or any other work for that matter. The wisdom of having a printout or copy of your plans and layout deniably allowed the Professing Chef to know who really was the artist behind the painting so to speak. Great story AND outcome Holly. May I ask, do you still cook? Or what I'm getting at is why KU? The reason is I have always loved to cook and its now, that I'm unemployed, and through the Food Network, I am also testing my hand at cooking. And though I am no Master chef, I do tell everyone that there is no one getting skinny since I've started to do most of the cooking at home now. Anyway's great story and hope to be visiting your blog more. Take care and God Bless! :o)
